CVA Optima

A new Muzzleloader on the Market from CVA! Introducing the Brand New CVA Optima!
I just received this rifle fresh off the UPS truck this evening. After stripping down the rifle and giving it a complete cleaning/lube job, i took it out to Zero in the 3-9x40 Bushnell Scope.

The scope is mounted on the New DuraSight Dead-On Mounts. These mounts are no light weights either! Very heavy and solid. The New Optima has 4 mounting holes for those of us that need a little more adjustment. Its unbelievable the amount of eye relief i have with this set up. I believe the days of Introducing the Scope to my Forehead Or Nose are over with!
270gr Powerbelt Platinum - 100gr BH209 Top Two shots After scope adjustment

The rifles Balance, feel and handling is Superb. The Factory open sights come into view crisp and bright, The ramrod is something that really caught my attention as they put inserts inside of the ramrod thimbles to keep it Rattle Free & most importantly, Scratch free! The ramrods used to get scratched up badly after only a few uses so this will be a great improvement.

The trigger on my Optima breaks at an Estimated 3lbs with ZERO grit and ZERO Creep. Its like breaking glass. The trigger also has a much more squared off feel to it. The trigger on my CVA Accura is round and with gloves, is very hard to get a good feel of. The Optima trigger feel In my opinion is much better and feels very comfortable. Also plenty of room inside the trigger guard for a shooter with gloves on. The break action button is very nice and not in the way of anything, you have to give it a good squeeze in order for it to release. Some may not like that but when you hunt thick brush, you don't want the rifle to open up on accident due to a branch snagging the button!

You will also notice on the Wrist and on the Forearm, the Checkering. This is a new pattern i believe and it feels great! It's truly a rock solid grip on this rifle. Sling Studs are molded into the Stock. Hammer Spur is removable and can be mounted for either a Rifle hand or a Left hand Shooter.

Lets get the one the greatest things that this rifle offers for its small price tag!! The Quick Release Breech Plug! This Breech plug is simply the best i have ever had on a rifle, Especially on a rifle with such a low price tag. The QRBP requires NO tools to remove it after a day of shooting on the range. I had only enough time for 6 shots with the rifle but the breech plug came out super easy. Just snug it up finger tight and go shooting. Its coming back out without any trouble at the end of the day. The inside of the frame and the Primer end of the QRBP are super clean and are not messy after a few shots. The way you see it pictured now, is basically what it looks like after firing it a few times.

Zero blowby after 6 shots!

This Muzzle Loader is Blackhorn209 Approved! Use either CCI 209M Or Federal 209A primers and the rifle just comes to life each and every time with Superb Accuracy!

This post will be updated as soon as I am able to get it out to the 100 yard shooting range.

Gee, that looks familiar. I am working on getting a scope right now for mine but, I might just take the one I already have off and put it on the new one.
